Throughout my many years in education, beginning as a teacher in 2006, I've naturally gravitated towards teaching the most challenging and disaffected groups. These were often students with complex needs who were frequently overlooked despite their potential because they were less likely to achieve those coveted C or above grades. As a result, they missed out on the best teaching and the challenge they deserved.

This experience deeply shaped my understanding of the education system's gaps and the urgent need for inclusive practices. I became increasingly driven by the belief that meeting the diverse needs of all students—especially those who are most vulnerable—can lead to improved outcomes across the board. This conviction led me to pursue my SENCO qualification, and later, a Master's in SEND and Inclusion. I wanted to ensure that every student, regardless of their challenges, has access to the quality education and support they need to thrive. By focusing on SEND, I aim to bridge the gap and advocate for those who often go unheard, ensuring that no student is left behind.

As a SENCO, I am acutely aware that even the best provisions cannot fully replace the impact of quality teaching. Therefore, much of my advisory work centres on enhancing the expertise of all staff members, equipping them with a range of evidence-based strategies to support every student effectively. After all, we know that quality first teaching is the cornerstone of meeting SEND needs.

Driven by my commitment to fostering inclusive education and ensuring that every student receives the support they deserve, I decided to launch SEND First Consultancy. This initiative allows me to extend my reach, providing targeted expertise and practical solutions to schools, educators, and parents. By focusing on empowering others, SEND First Consultancy is dedicated to creating environments where all students, regardless of their challenges, can thrive and achieve their full potential.
